Seems as if Jimbo's metaphorical cock is getting a bit lonely.

Governance processes for Wikipedia? The very idea!

So basically, instead of Jimbo deciding by himself, it will be Jimbo and several of his syncopaths sycophants working together? What a radical change.

Nice neologism.

This has nothing to do with governance. It has to do with Jimbo finding out who is really reliable and who isn't, and also on taking power away from the ArbCom, which is starting to behave as if it actually had some sort of independence from Jimmy. But mostly it's about Jimmy getting his ego stroked; there will be a lot of that as all the various "syncopaths" (nice term, that) run about trying to convince Jimmy that they should be allowed to serviceserve him in his bathroom.

I think you must be right. What powers does he have anyway?

Surely he has whatever powers people allow him to have - no more and no less. If the WMF trustees don't stop him if he arrogantly claims to represent WMF, then indeed he does represent it. If he claims unlimited rights to sack an admin and ArbCom don't object ... Need i go on?

Soooooo, Jimbo is to appoint a Privy Council to advise him whom to appoint as judges for his Star Chamber. Meh. I would be far more interested to know who he will appoint as his http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Stick_and_Silver_Stick.

So none then really.

Any bets as to who would be on this council?

Posted by: EricBarbour

A "Privy Council".

The bastard couldn't call it an "advisory council" or a "representative council", he had to use a pretentious term normally reserved to the British monarch's advisors.

He's starting to turn into Madonna. You watch, soon he'll be affecting a bad British accent.

I'd like to shit in his Privy.

Is it only me, or somebody else feels as singing

Jimbo Wales,Jimbo Wales,
Jimbo all the way... biggrin.gif

Well, duh. Jimbo really does believe that he is by divine Right Wikipedia's one true God-King. I think the notion to imitate the British royalty specifically was planted in his head by James Forrester, though.

If only I could find more examples online somewhere, of people like Forrester obviously
supporting the Walesian god complex. No doubt they do most of it via email and IRC.

What's really amazing to me: how few of his snorkelers have turned against him publicly.
It took Hubbard until the early 1960s to get his "Church" going, and even then he already
had a long list of detractors who were former insiders.

Sound familiar?......

Jimbo's made quite a little career out of Larry Sanger's invention. As long a Jimbo hangs around Wikipedia it helps open doors and keeps him viable as a paid speaker. He doesn't have to do much work or take any risks, just keep his visibility up. I'm sure that's not lost on Jimbo. The God complex is something else entirely.

Wikipedia's been stagnate for years; no progress on a quality system, fading editor retention, no improvements in governance, no interesting new projects. This is in the context of the English Wikipedia, where Jimbo spends his time and the other languages emulate. Seriously, how hard would it be to launch a couple of 'research' projects? For example - Give the community a new domain name for stable releases. Use the Featured Article system as a starting point and see if it gains a critical mass of editors. It would cost almost nothing and take little effort. Instead, Jimbo is just riding the gravy train.

If Jimbo was serious about helping WP have effective governance, he wouldn't make the "privy council" report to him.

I'm assuming that his Pit Privy Council will be appointed solely by him and serve at his pleasure. He will probably allow for the same sort of sham elections that are used for ArbCom, to give the appearance of representative democracy, but he will reserve the authority to appoint whomever he pleases, regardless of the outcome of the elections.

If he were serious, the councilors would be elected in open elections, serve for fixed terms, and be removable only for cause. But he won't do that, because that would amount to an unconscionable intrusion on Jimbo's divine right to rule.

I'm sure you're right. Dumbo Wales has to go.

Isn't that what already happens? Only they have silly titles like "bureaucrat" (does anyone in Wikiworld know what a real bureaucrat is like?) and ArbCom member.

I guess London's air made Jimbo to think about Privy Council.
He's so close now to Prince of Wales territorially and they both are Wales tongue.gif that of course Jimbo feels it is about time to think about Privy Council. biggrin.gif
