Poetlister and ten other user accounts were banned on May 30, 2007, in what many people both inside and outside Wikipedia now regard as a blatant miscarriage of justice. At first I was unconvinced, but after investigating the evidence in much more detail than the blocking administrator did, and after communicating with Poetlister herself, I am now convinced that she is innocent. Trying to prove that case to anyone who has the power to overturn the ban will require every ounce of skill I have, along with assistance from Heaven (?í?Ö?Ö?ó?¬?É ?ô?????Ö?É).

This is obviously by user Shalom.

Yeah, confirmed. He was User:YechielMan previously.

While I am sympathetic to his undertaking, I fear he will run into a brick wall, and even risk ejection for persistence in overturning an evident injustice.

Undoubtedly. But he says that he's given up Wikipedia in disgust, though he may go back if some of these injustices are dealt with. He seems to be an excellent editor, so anyone with sense would be swayed by that. (No, don't say it.)

Yah, I've said the same thing, myself. But I'm not holding my breath waiting for WP to deal with the injustices or the systemic problems that generate them.

He made 2 edits the other day to strongly oppose R Baley's RfA. I get the feeling that'll be the limit of his participation, which is a real shame. (And I say a real shame with strong connotation, to the point that I nominated him for adminship late last year.)

Shalom's pointed something out to me that I've never noticed and I don't think anyone else has mentioned. When Dmcdevit announced the bans, he said

"After an investigation involving several CheckUsers, myself included, it has been determined based on new, firmer technical evidence, as well as the editing patterns, including similar article interests, reverting to each other, and double voting, that Newport, Poetlister, R613vlu, Brownlee, Londoneye, and Taxwoman, all previous sockpuppetry suspects from 2005, are all the same user, and, further, that the operator of these accounts is also the operator of newer accounts including Simul8, Osidge, Holdenhurst, and the admin account Runcorn. On the recommendation of the Arbitration Committee, Runcorn has been desysopped by a steward, and all of the accounts have been blocked indefinitely."

What's the error? R613vlu and Brownlee were not previous sockpuppetry suspects from 2005! They did not exist in 2005. If he can't get that right, how on earth can we place any credence in any other aspect of what he's done?

Of course, saying we're all the same because of double voting is a bit circular.

Mebbe Dmcdevit and Durova are one and the same, as well, doing erratic sleuthing in a similar way. smile.gif

Yeah, this blog is mine. I've made no effort to hide it, and I'm surprised it took people this long to find it.

If I get banned for defending Poetlister, so be it. What are they going to do to me? Force me to edit against my will?

Of course, if we win the case, nobody will have to force me to edit. I will come back of my own free will. smile.gif

I like this guy. I hope he doesn't get burned out on this stuff as it is enough to drive anyone crazy. I'm already convinced that half the people at this site could / should be sectioned under the Mental Health Act. I'd hate to see another decent chap get carted off in a straitjacket.
