Everyone will know by now that Google Knol is being phased out.

I just used the http://knol.google.com/k to move all my knols over to the WordPress http://annotum.org/ theme, creating a blog named “Inquiry Into Inquiry” —

So far, so good …

On jugera …

Posted by: Jon Awbrey

Well, I should have known that was too good to be true.

Everything ported over really nice from Knol to Annotum, but the first time you try to edit an article it turns all the formatting and links to utter hash.

Trying again with another blog —

Actually I'm surprised it worked at all.

I've never done any real blogging before, preferring to work on wikis, so this is all new to me.

Flushed out the mess on http://inquiryintoinquiry.wordpress.com/ with a couple iterations of the Export/Import tools on Annotum and Knol, posted a bug note to the support page, and wrote a few test posts.

I'll save http://inquiryintoinquiry.wordpress.com/ for working on logic, math, philosophy stuff and use the http://jonawbrey.wordpress.com/ blog for general nonsense and political animadversions.

From what it promises, Annotum looks interesting, with more support for collaboration and peer review, so they say.

We'll see …

¡¡¡ Good Grief, What A Piece Of Crap !!!

Sorry dude.

I'm really disappointed with the way Google starts and stops things. Stuff one would hope would be around for decades is gone in a year or two. It's like they slap a "Beta" tag on the name and it's an excuse for low expectations.

My recommendation is you pony up the money and host a site yourself. Slightly more security that way. Also I doubt Kohs would screw you over. Wikipedia Review it up.

Posted by: Jon Awbrey

It looks like the Annotum developers are following the fashion of the day in rolling out their platform first and testing it later. There doesn't appear to be any way to edit the articles ported over from Knol to Annotum without reducing them to utter hash, so I copied all my articles to another Annotum blog and will leave them be until such time as the Annotum developers get the bugs out of their system. In the meantime the articles will be archived here —

http://jonawbrey.wordpress.com/

Merry Christmas !!!

I gave up trying to convert my Knol articles into Annotum articles. The latter platform is too undeveloped at the present time to allow for continued development of the imported articles. The best I could manage was archiving static copies of the Knol articles on one blog, then starting a new blog under a standard WordPress theme as a place to keep working on their content.

Here's the blog where I'll keep the archived articles:

Thanks …

Nothing much to say about Wikiputia …

It seems strange to me now that I ever got involved with a mass-mediocracy mash-up like that …

It isn't the sort of thing I ever cared about before.

The conventional wisdom on most of my cheese feeds is that the Dems flubbed it when they picked Barrett, as most voters felt insulted by the idea of a rerun.

Reminds me of the last stanza from Richard Lovelace's "To Althea, from Prison."

QUOTE
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone, that soar above,
Enjoy such liberty.

Education is about encountering the absurd (or what we think is absurd) and trying to understand it. When I was studying to be a teacher, we were taught that people learn best when confronted with a contradiction and forced to reconcile what they thought to be true with the latest truth. But then, how can you separate an absurdity from a fact? Camus seems to be talking about philosophical "natural selection." Nature will eventually kill off absurdity and leave only truth?

I'm not sure if that is what Camus is going for, but that's what came to my mind.

They usually go above my head, but occasionally, there's something I understand. Camus doesn't seem as deep as the others.

One of my wife's favorite books on the philosophy of education is Maxine Greene's Teacher as Stranger.

The way Camus describes it, the absurd arises from a confrontation between the way the world is and the way we want it to be. The path he indicates is not a way of avoiding the absurd, but a way of acknowledging it and remaining aware of it.

Just what I get out of it, anyway …

ermm.gif Good luck with those. My high school trigonometry and Algebra II didn't go that deep into functions. I recall tangling with a Sigma then, but I can't remember how I solved it or what it had to do with anything.

Now, as an aspiring librarian, you and your wife's http://inquiryintoinquiry.com/2013/10/23/architectonics-of-inquiry-1/ does intrigue me. Cook's Theorem is a basic result in the study of Computational Complexity, and probably wouldn't come up in anything more than a hand-waving goodbye for now sort of way in a first programming course. But you might find that GLL blog fun to sample from time to time just to get interesting highlights and amusing sidelights on the field. That DATA project is my particular spin on the subject and you needn't fear it showing up in textbooks anytime soon, if ever.
