Anyone who knows Wikipedia (and the very fact that Wales was the junior "co-founder" partner to Dr. Larry Sanger who initiated the wiki aspect of the encyclopedia, named it "Wikipedia", and issued the first public call for participation) knows that many of these administrators that Wales speaks of are about the most arrogant, bullying, and inept knowledge managers that the Internet has ever known. And they are about as infrequently "removed when rules are broken" as communications satellites fall on people. The "community mechanisms" used by Wikipedia simply don't work, and that's why editors of quality content are abandoning the project in droves.

Well, it is all perspective. If we are defining good governance as a system that relies on an abusive totalitarian state that suppresses those who can contribute while praising those who are sycophantic and lie to get ahead, then he would be 100% correct.

Greg is right. He's simply lying, and he knows it.

But the more precise description for what he's doing, and what he more routinely does, is bullshitting. I'm very sure he knows he's doing that, too.

I don't see lying and bullshitting as equivalent terms. My perception is that he believes what he's saying, even though it's rather distant from the reality, but of course you have the advantage of personal experience to draw on.
