I always felt that Ward Cunningham was was probably a talented and insightful programmer. Most of WP's problems are non-obvious and are only tangentially related to the software. I will try not to think less of him for "sitting down with Jimbo." You know, conferences, interview and stuff. It probably means nothing. What is O'Reilly thinking making Jimbo the keynote?

Now Jimbo sitting down with Ward Churchill might be interesting. I wonder if he ever met Merkey?

Der Jimbo believes this?

QUOTE(Jimbo Wales)
I think 100 years from now, when people look back at the beginning days of the Internet, that wikis, Wikipedia -- people will look back and say, "That's something that was good."

There is a high probability that within one year from now, most people will look at Wikipedia and say "That's something that is an unreliable mess of shit that is ruining the internet". And want someone to blame.

QUOTE(Jimbo Wales)
I get asked these big guru questions about technology, and I have no idea. I'm a carpenter, not an architect.

You're neither, Der Jimbo. You're a self promoting circus ring master presiding over a show consisting of clowns, freaks and wild animals completely out of control. The audience is at great risk.

One day Google will change PageRank and the Wikipedia free ride will end.

Another one for my list of failed predictions.

Your hate has blinded you to reality. I just hit random article 10 times and this was the result.

1. Renford Rejects
2. Bahrain national beach handball team
3. Diktatorat
4. Avery Waddell
5. Franco D'Alessandro
6. Alexandre Francois Auguste de Grasse
7. Baruch ben Isaac
8. Baked
9. Freightconnection
10. Cádiz (province)

I searched for the exact article title with no quotes, with the exception of Cádiz when I only searched for the word Cádiz. I searched on Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, and Ask.com, and recorded when Wikipedia first came up in that order(G, Y, MSN, AOL, ASK). Note that AOL is apparently 'With Google!', but I don't know what that exactly means.

1. #2, #1, #3, #24, #2
2. #1, #1, #11, #1, #1
3. #1, #1, #1, #1, #1
4. #2, #2, #42, #2, #1. Interesting aside: For MSN, Answers.com and other wikimirrors came up first.
5. #4, #4, #9, #6, #8
6. #1, #1, #3, #1, #1
7. #1, #1, #1, #1, #1
8. #5, #2, #2, #4, somewhere past 100
9. #4, #3, #12, #1, #1,
10. #7, #1, #1, #5, #1

Google could die tomorrow and Wiki's traffic wouldn't care.

GBG: As a member of AboutUs, I talk to Ward whenever I choose (we're both on the same place on IRC every day). I haven't thought of anything to ask him though. He's a great one to talk to, nothing like Der Jimbo who was a complete prdick (at least when he talked to me).

Ward's ideas of community and collaboration go beyond Jimbo's. I think Jimbo had the right idea when he created Nupedia/Wikipedia but he should see the signs that it's just not working out, they're staring him in the face and he refuses to acknowledge them.

I will also try not to think any less of Ward for sitting down with Der Jimbo. wink.gif
