Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Amarkov 3

You know, I'm surprised. I thought that Amarkov said back in August that he was done playing wikipolitics and wouldn't run for RFA again. He referred to someone being the deciding factor, which I now think is MONGO. The irony is that Jaranda/Secret called him out for playing wikipoltiics.

Discuss these evil Wikipedias playing these political games.

Didn't he leave WR because he was called a hypocrite?

Amarkov has long had a wankish fascination for process on WP. Recently he has posted a number of fairly good posts for a newcomer on WR. A couple even showed some real potential.

I would tend to give him the benefit of the doubt. The worst that can come of it is yet another crappy WP admin. Maybe he's up to something creative here. I know that saying this might not help him much over there but I don't give a shit. I don't take any shit. I'm not in the shit business. I'm more concerned that he develops a deeper critique.

I was in that business for a while, but it was basically long hours and low pay, and I really stank at the end of the day...

Anyway, so this means... what? I take it we're not going to engage in some sort of grand/evil/soopersekrit conspiratorial scheme to get Amarkov elected? We're just going to sit idly by and do nothing, merely observing the inevitable negative outcome for all concerned?

Where's the fun in that? sad.gif

Like the Anti-Cabal of the Screwtape Letters, we let it run it's course. Then we collect his soul.

It completely flopped - snowball close at 3/15/0.

One thing I hadn't known about Amarkov before was his support for [[Category:Child Wikipedians]]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Del...006_December_30

where he opposed its deletion tooth and nail.

Oh no, my soul has been collected.

Anyway, this happened last time. And the time before. I wasn't really expecting a different result this time. But it's nice to periodically confirm that the correct way to become an admin is "keep your head down and edit as we say".

Even that only works if you pretend to be a syncophant... um, I mean "not troll". And if I really wanted to be an admin, I could have done so easily. For that matter, I might not even have had to switch accounts, if I got blocked and then magically changed into a new person.

QUOTE(Taxwoman @ Sun 2nd December 2007, 5:43am) *

I do find it amazing that the sane, reasonable Amarkov on WR is the same person who brought a DRV over the article about Wipipedia after two failures on AfD. I still cannot fathom what he objected to.

Well, at that point, I was beginning to realize that there was something wrong, and thought that maybe demanding a bunch of process would fix it. Too bad process really means doing whatever you want in a way such that you can pretend it's fair.

Process is way too far down in the system architecture to achieve the goal you have in mind.

To achieve a goal, the leadership has to believe in values that the goal strives to enhance. Then the strategies, tactics, policies, and practices have to be carefully designed to further the goal.

Opponents on opposite sides of a chess board have common tools, but competing goals. In an organization, you need everyone subscribing to common values and common goals, if you want them to row in a common direction. It's the role of leadership to set the overall direction.

If oarsmen on opposite sides of a ship are rowing in opposite directions, the ship just goes around in circles.
