Whoa, huh? Viridae resigned? Why did this happen?

I seem to recall the term "McCarthyism" being mentioned, as he was inexplicably getting a great deal of hassle at the time from JzG, Calton, and their various minions for having an account here... but perhaps he should speak for himself?

Anyway, it looks like he's coming in with a quite-respectable 4th-place finish in the Straight Shooter poll, which should be good enough to earn him a spot on the relay team.

Boo to the whole competition if Cla68 doesn't get something. If the voting had opened today he would have won "straight shooter" by a country mile. Or is that recentism?

I'm baffled by the nominations and the results of the straight shooter poll. There is only one genuine straight shooter there and that is Cla68 (Charles Ainsworth of Japan). No disrespect to Giano, but some bloke who throws drama-wobblies every few months to contribute to his personal feuds with others is not a straight-shooter.

As for some of the other nominees, they may be nice people with good intentions, like Lar and Alison, but give me a break?!?

I wouldn't go quite that far, though I'd have to agree that Cla68 is a bit more deserving at the moment.

This is just my opinion, but Giano's primary WP opponent (the IRC cabal) is much more nebulous than Cla68's (the SlimCabal). Just about everyone on WP, aside from the IRC denizens themselves, is suspicious of the IRC cabal, whereas the SlimCabal only has a direct impact on a handful of topic areas, and of course policy, which a lot of people don't care much about. Also, going against the SlimCabal actually looks more like an interpersonal dispute to some people (though it isn't), and then there's the point that nobody thinks anyone can win against the SlimCabal, and people these days don't like to back doomed causes.

Anyway, no disrespect to Mr. Ainsworth either, but Giano is also a somewhat funnier guy, which (given the humor shortage on WP) seems to be an important factor.

True. Perhaps I was a bit harsh on Giano.

You say there is a humor shortage on WP? Not all. If it wasn't so damn funny I'd have given up following the goings on long ago.

Wasnt aware that resignaion was noticed - it was only ever going to be for a week or two to cool down and come back and deal with various problem (long term) problems wikipedia has without calling them the names they deserved. Basically frustration was building up a bit and i felt the need to do something more productive on the site.

Anyway I used the time away from the viridae account to write this: Liasis olivaceus, thereby getting my my first DYK. It was infinitely more satisfying that putting up with yet more lies from MONGO or JzG. When I returned I cut out 3/4 of my watchlist, dumping a lot of pages that I was simply watching for vandalism, the talk pages of editors I dont care about etc etc - means a less stressed wiki admin experience and I can get along and write another DYK - I have a couple more in mind. Believe it or not it was Durova that inspired the change, she is a much better editor writing articles than she was admin sleuthing.

Fantastic! This is exactly the kind of article for which I often find Wikipedia to be useful (in fact I've visited that very article.) Compare this entry from the a very respectable academic source:
http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site..._olivaceus.html
Reliable, certainly, but there's no data.

Yes I found a lot of that in my search for sources/info.

The next one I will have a go at is Liasis fuscus.

Then probobly Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (did a thesis on that fungus - know a little bit about it).

Correction - I'd visited Liasis. Good luck with L. fuscus.

It's not nebulous when the IRC swarm descends upon you to threaten and/or block you for no good reason or for completely false reasons.

Since "quentin" tarantino is a W-R'ian, and the subject of this thread is Gerard's favourite WP meme, WP:DICK, I'll post an excerpt from Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (which has an ending similar to the endgame of the MM Arb-itrage). Edited for the Family W-R of course. And it's a complete coincidence that the example that Mr Pink uses is a Madonna song including the word Virgin. This has nothing to do with Slimmy, who will surely post this as evidence of Piper Misogyny anyway, because that's what she does. Twist & Distort, lol. Mr Pink could have used Madonna's "Borderline", and I still would have posted this ;-)

It came to mind because everytime I read Gerard droning on about WP:DICK, this scene comes to mind. The WP:DICK award winner could be send an MP3 of it from the Reservoir soundtrack.

QUOTE

MR. PINK
Let me tell ya what "Like a
Virgin"'s about. It's about some

machine.
I mean all the time, morning, day,
night, afternoon, dick, dick,
dick, dick, dick,
dick, dick, dick, dick, dick,
dick.

MR. BLUE
How many dicks was that?

MR. WHITE
A lot.

Fools to the left of me, wikijokers to my right, here I am back in the W-R with you....

May I have the envelope, please?FORUM Image

...and, the top award in the 3rd Annual WP:DICK of Distinction awards pageant goes to:

JzG is a perennial favorite, here at the Review. He has plenty of colorful idiosyncracies, such as his celebrated Big Boob edits, and has also taken a strong interest in our work. So, it gives me great pleasure to present this year's Jimbo® statuette to JzG.

FORUM Image The Jimbo (Artist's conception)

In a dramatic eleventh-hour rally, the ever-popular SlimVirgin edged out Jayjg for the silver medal in the WP:DICK competition, winning by a scant 2 points. SlimVirgin and Jayjg, both fierce competitors, will nonetheless go back to regular collaboration on Wikipedia projects of mutual interest, demonstrating to a whole new generation of young Wikipediots the true meaning of sportsmanship.

In the other categories, the competition for the Miss Incongeniality award was tremendously close, but in the end, JzG came from behind and emerged from the pack to claim the honors. This is clearly the year of JzG!

In the Tag-Team Event, the competition was dominated from the start by the power-team of SlimVirgin and Crum375, known to their legions of fans as Slum.

Finally, in the much-talked-about Straight Shooter event, we have encountered a bit of a SNAFU in this year's pageant, undoubtedly due in some way to the recent writers' strike which is now over, thank god. Due to improper vetting of nominees by the sole member of our Program and Catering Committee, nominees were accepted who were not Wikipedia admins, and by definition, the Straight Shooter Award goes to the most honest admin. So, the P and C Committee pulled an all-nighter and came up with the following solution:

* This year's Straight Shooter award goes to Alison, who was far and away the top vote-getter among admins. The runner-up honors go to Viridae, who as it turns out is still indeed an admin.

* For the two nominees who got a tremendous response from the Academy despite the fact that they are not admins, we institute the Cojones de latón award, which we proudly present to Giano, with the runner-up award going to Cla68. These gentlemen have distinguished themselves by a valiant opposition to the cabal, conducted with élan and razor-sharp argumentation.

So, in conclusion, hearty congratulations to all our nominees. You all looked great on the red carpet (especially you, David Gerard,) and may the next year be equally productive for everyone!

Someone should post to JzG's talkpage to notify him of his award.

Bonus points for actually uploading the Jimbo picture.

I will, if whoever created it can assure me it's GFDL or PD or whatever. Depends if the original Jimbo image was freely released.
