The bidding war over the soiled garb of Jimbo Wales has escalated. The items of clothing are being sold by scorned ex-girlfriend Rachel Marsden, presumably as an amusing revenge attack. Our own Wordbomb has been joined by a rival bidder known as John Kerouac. Kerouac claims to be running a campaign of Let's Get Jimmy's Stuff Back to Him with Dignity.

Latest bid is at $102

eBay blogs? Now that's just silly.

"john_kerouac" apparently buys Russian collectibles and only occasionally remembers to leave feedback. If he's the Tom Hayes of TomBomb.com, he's a WP redlink, and possibly this low-volume user, who added him. This user also attempted to create an article on "Beme" which was deleted as a neologism. Compare Tom Hayes' blog, "Just how fast can this beme circle the globe, enter Wikipedia as a new term and leap off out of the blogosphere and into the mainstream?" See also this post, citing the short-lived entry on "beme." Sad. Another "beme" stifled by deletionists.

Anyhow, maybe we should pool with WordBomb. I pledge $10--and if you can't trust a pseudonym's claims, what can you trust?

Lovin' the profile, WB. "What I lack in feedback I more than make up for in charm."

We should also ask Rachel Marsden if she'd like to donate the sale proceeds to Danny Wool's Sri Lanka project.

http://allswool.blogspot.com/search/label/Sri%20Lanka

Danny's stuck his neck out to expose Jimbo over this and the cause seems to be worthy. See the below for more information.

With all the talk about this I've put the Ebay links below.

Someone calling themselves Wordbomb has placed a few bids.

How soon will some joker create a false ebay user name "JimmyWales" and place a few bids? laugh.gif

http://cgi.ebay.com/Wikipedia-Jimmy-Jimbo-...1QQcmdZViewItem

The tee-shirt has a white stain on it. Sorry, I'm not going to say what I think the stain is, but I can't help keep thinking of the troubles Bill had with Monica Lewinsky. laugh.gif

"Both of these items have been washed, twice, with Tide extra-strength liquid detergent. Otherwise, they would not be in salable condition. "

Isn't Jimbo more than rich enough to
do that himself, should he so desire?

That's erm, pretty resistant ''stuff' though, if it's been through the wash twice and is still there. Wonder what he's eating biggrin.gif

Yes of course Jimbo can afford to join in, but it's more of an ego boost if lackeys do it for you, I imagine. As always, fanboys care more than the objects of their passion do.

Well, see, the majority of Jimbo's 'fans' have much tighter
finances than Jimbo himself. They have things to do like
pay the rent or the mortgage, the utility bills, the groceries,
both routine and unexpected medical bills, gasoline or
transit fare, clothing, other regular every day stuff. Then
maybe they want to save up for things like a house or a
better vehicle, not to mention always have some money
that can be used for emergencies. If they manage to pay
for all the necessities without going too badly into debt,
it's always fun to spend a bit of money on leisure.

In other words, most people have much better things to do
with their money than save the dignity of a rich person who
could easily afford to do it himself.

I wonder if he'll ask the Foundation to get it back for him :-D

I bet he'll suggest it as a "joke" and watch their reaction, like a married man asking his wife if she wants to have a threesome.

Wow. The shirt and sweater are at $301 and $405, respectively.

I think it's time to re-open the Wikipedia Review Cafepress store. Perhaps a T-shirt with a simulated stain that reads, "I was dumped on Wikipedia and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."

Hey, if that IS cum on that t-shirt, that's evidence in a paternity suit, regardless of how many times it's been washed!

I say that it's worth every penny!

The rumor about the origins of the stain have obviously driven up the bidding price for the t-shirt (now going at $750 compared to a mere $530 for the sweater). Earlier the sweater was outpacing the t-shirt by about 2:1 (I speak as if they are animate objects, perhaps they are smile.gif)

Let's be honest - it's a stain on a t-shirt. It's probably from a cheese steak sandwich or paint or something and highly unlikely to be "genetic material". And it also appears to be on the back of the shoulder which would necessitate an especially wild and unlikely sexual position.

I guess that depends on who might have been wearing it at the time.

It seems like a really lame shirt, really. It has some sort of logo on it, which Marsden doesn't display well (or is that another stain?)

Ebay

Shirt's now going for more than $2000! Unfortunately eBay decided to start obscuring bidders' names today so no idea who this person is except that with a track record of 0 (and it being wikipedia related) this could be a fake account. Either that or some Blofeldian figure actually wants to get the shirt and try to clone Jimbo. Hope he doesn't end up cloning Rachel instead.

It's now $12,100 and going higher. blink.gif Ebay will soon pull the plug on this one.

I'm thinking of creating a article titled "list of notable relationship breakups" if it already hasn't been done, and referencing this.

They have an incentive for it to work to collect commission. Perhaps they'll retroactively require history to bid.

It looks like two accounts without any history on ebay have driven up the price. The last "credible" bid was at the mere $2000 mark.
