The blog post Wiki wiki whak by a pseudonymous "Dr Zen" is an outstanding dissection of Jimmy Wales' recent essay in The Guardian.

Please read it. It's very long, but so worthwhile.

Whenever I read the pronouncements of Jimmy Wales, I want to slap the smug fuck. His recent article in the Guardian provoked no different a feeling.

Clearly, Wales does not read Wikipedia, which demonstrates very clearly that humans are exactly that [irrational captives to their background and identity]. Contentious issues are battlegrounds, on which people show no objectivity at all. Indeed, in Wikipedia, "objectivity" is measured by how much support you have.

Yep, Dr Zen is Grace Note, and he was always a leftist. Got into a mess of trouble with the Israel cabal, as I recall, but he also interestingly believed that the site should have some sort of image content management, and edit warred over the photo at [[Clitoris]], getting sanctioned for it by ArbCom.

Lot of true nuggets in Dr Zen's post in re Jimbo and "NPOV." I'm like thekohser here: I read enough leftist crap that I tend to filter it out as simply uninteresting.

This case is worth quoting just for the flavor.

This case is a fairly straightforward example of one user - Dr Zen - who hasn't gotten his way and refuses to stop fighting to get his way. Every day, Dr Zen removes the picture from Clitoris, arguing that it is offensive and doesn't belong in Wikipedia.

This dispute has been going on for some time. Primarily at Zen's instigation, clitoris went through a 5 month seige (there's really no other word for it) from September until January. The article protected for very long periods of time, during which talk page many was filled up times over. The article stabalized after 6 polls - each of which favored keeping the article in its current status quo - and an arbcom case which saw Cantus banned from the article, for doing exactly what Dr Zen is dong. Dr Zen became inactive in January. After he left us, the problems ceased and the article stabalized.

What can I say. Apparently he just wouldn't leave it alone and finally rubbed Arb the wrong way.
