Characters Who Need To Be Watched, New Candidates For Wikipedia Watch Options Rating

My recent tour of Wiki-Meatia-Puppet Protectorates around the world introduced me to a whole new gang of wiki-meatia-puppet clones and colonials. Language varies as language will in foreign wiki-ports-o-call, and so we find the power-mongers in those places going under a host of different names — custodians, meta-administrators, moderators, and such.

But my solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short acquaintance with these characters was more than enough to convince me that each and every one of them deserves to be watched as much as anyone on the Hive Mind List of Wikipedia Administrators and Bureaucrats at Wikipedia Watch.

So I will be gathering up my notes and listing my most unforgettable characters below.

Aside from old fiends like Guy Chapman, who prefers to pull his puppet strings from behind the ob-scenes of IRC swamps and other duckblinds, Fave Rave N°1 would have to be Mike Lifeguard. Indeed, this character has invented a whole new genre of Abusive SPAM, that we may dub DEFAM.

Mike Lifeguard's campaign of defamation across International Wikis continues to compound itself with egregious acts of vandalism and rank abuse of power at the highest levels:

It amazes me how these self-appointed "spam fighters" get themselves so worked up over a few outbound links across a few wikis, but they don't seem to have a single care about the 9,000+ (or, is it up to 14,000+ now, I can't remember?) outbound links to the for-profit Wikia, Inc.

Now you really have to Wonder What — or maybe Who — would incite a couple of International Wikipedia Administrators (I think they call them Moderators on the Nederlands Wikipedia) to blank, blast, block, and ban a first-time tourist in their land for doing nothing more than introducing himself to potential collaborators on their encyclopedia.

How Many Wikipediots Does It Take To Screw In A “Strong Consensus”?

There are in excess of 10,000,000 accounts in all the Wikitædiæ — most of which I'm pretty sure aren't mine. But we are constantly finding handfools of Wikipediots whose brains are so addled by nothing butt constant exposure to their own Wiki-Prattle that they actually believe — or at least lack the good sense to keep from saying out loud — that a Wiki-Quorum of 2 or 3 or 4, no more than that in many cases, amounts to a "Strong Consensus".

Stop Laffing …

In ordinary and technical parlance both, "Consensus" means 100%, so ordinary and technical people are probably thinking that "Strong Consensus" means something like 110% of 10,000,000 — but no, in Wiki-Parlance "Strong Consensus" don't mean Doodley Squat.

Nonetheless, it makes a good exercise in Wiki-Parlimental Procedure to enumerate a few of the meta-no-accounts who have of late come together on the Global Wiki Meatia Scene to constitute that Doodley Squat.

It saddens me that people who hide behind pseudonyms grow more and more deprived of the basic human capacity to empathize with human beings of the kind I assume they were born. But I am doing what I can to reveal and amend the evils that arise from the practice of donning masks, not to mention brown socks and wiki-white sheets, and I recommend that you go heckle someone else, as I can but cure a few souls at a time. And the main thing is, they have to really want to be cured.

How is what Jon doing disruptive? I don't like the idea of some coward or "consensus" on Meta Wikipedia ordering all the projects to obey Meta on what is spam and what is not. What people put on their userpages is up to the individual projects. Only Wikiversity had one person willing to point that out. Instead of praising him, Wikiversity is now have a Spammish Inquisition and Mike.lifeguard is yelling about his feelings being hurt. Why can't you Wikipedians just talk to Jon and reason with him like a human being instead of demonizing him?

The purpose of Meta Wikipedia is to coordinate activities for all Foundational projects, not act as some super wiki controlling all the wikis. Mike.lifeguard and his friends are out of line and they need to be told so. Not only that, but these wiki projects need to stop "assuming good faith" when some stranger from Meta comes over to the project and starts dictating who is "bad." Whether or not Mike.lifeguard and his friends have good cross-wiki reputations, it is up to the individual communities to decide spam and userpage policy, not Meta Wikipedia.
