Agree. Mr. Wales' greatest disservice to Wikipedia was the creation of the bifurcation between WMF and "the community." This was The Great Firewall of Irresponsibility. I like that. Perfectly put. Jimmy can sit around and say, "golly, there are problems on Wikipedia? I didn't mean for this to happen! I don't know what's going on! I'm Lawful Good! I have this magical Great Firewall that protects me from harm!" In the meantime, shit happens. Again and again and again. |

One of the leading supporters - and apparently an organizer of - AdminWatch, Goodmorningworld (T-C-L-K-R-D)
, writes today:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Ton...Stretch_resigns QUOTE Admin DDStretch resigns There was always an unspoken assumption in the AdminReview project, namely that the good-faith efforts to put in place an orderly process for addressing valid grievances of editors against individual administrators would be recognized as useful and valuable not just by the Wikipedia community in general, but also by administrators and especially by arbitrators, since some findings from the AdminReview process would require follow-up from Arbcom, especially when it comes to sanctions for admin misbehavior. Recent events have disabused me of that notion. I no longer have faith in the goodwill of the majority of admins, and especially I have lost most of my respect for arbitrators, whose impartiality and skills in the date delinking arbitration have been simply abysmal. When you can't change the system from within, the most honorable course of action is to walk away with your integrity intact. That is what admin DDStretch has done, whose resignation statement today provides details.--Goodmorningworld (talk) 12:21, 10 March 2009 (UTC) |

The election to the Admin Review team has been moved from "Mid-March" to "the first half of 2009".
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=276480378 Tony1 also notes on the talk page: QUOTE(Tony1) WP is starting to look like an unpleasant, at times abusive, environment. We need to institute at least basic measures to balance the existing, under-accountable power structure http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=276255249 |

Could swear someone else wrote a similar proposal--which went nowhere.
Ah, I knew it! Administrator recall (from 2007) Leifern's AdminWatch (from 2006) Elonka's recall page (ha ha ha) ....many other admins have such pages--I can't find any that were actually used..... The essential rules for controlling bad admins are there.....it's just that nobody follows them. Anyone care to place bets on this proposal coming to anything? I'll be more positive about it when someone uses it to successfully remove a really famous abusive admin. (cough-Jay-cough) |
