I'm proposing crediting fair minded people who positively moved good things forward, and I support satirically criticizing people who were found to.. say... sockpuppet to harrass BLP victims, aggressively lie about others to further their political aims, reek revenge on random enemies, conspire to censor or ban whole swathes of innocent bystanders.. etc. That type of thing. As opposed to the other way round. Sure, in the current WR climate infested by pro-Wikipedia game players, my ideas are now radical and controversial, but hey - I'm old school. I don't have much interest in the internal working, dramas or personalities on Wikipedia. I suppose a certain amount of attention is needed to provide a voice for people who come here concerned with specific injustices they suffered on Wikipedia. We have seen some people like this go on to develop serious critiques, such as Jon and Greg (even outside WR). I haven't followed this closely at all but I know Herch is very much an "honest broker" who would abide by any nominations made in this thread and don't imagine those nominated reflect his views at all. Any "awards ceremony" is going to for benefit and amusement of "less advanced" reviewers and therefore such threads should be used sparingly. I think this is the third(?) annual such event and we can probably tolerate this kind thing once or twice a year, even if I think we could do without any awards to actually honor Wikipedians and would prefer to limit it parody and smart-assery. I would rather see this done under the direction of a seasoned reviewer, like Herch, than have it manifest itself with recurrent "My Favorite Wikipedian" or "What I like best about Wikipedia" threads of trolling loyalists. I agree that the prevalence of pro-Wikipedians can be discouraging but WR has demonstrated it can managing these cyclical onslaughts without caving into lowering WR to their level. |
