I'd like a simple argument, please No you wouldn't Yes I would No you wouldn't... Hilarious, Milton. Are we ready to vote now? On what? I'm feeling curmudgeonly today. I just got a political phonecall with a nice live young lady reminding me that California's class sizes are the largest in the country, and asking if I'd like to be transferred to the Governor's office to tell him we want this fixed! I said no. The class size problem is due to educating half of Mexico, and the solution is not to hire more teachers, because this state is broke. In case she had not noticed. So, that's how I'm feeling. You want me to vote, while feeling like that? I'm going to go have a beer. |

Majorly has been granted checkuser (after a one day vote) There's 2 checkusers now on simple wikipedia. Majorly. was a elected a couple of days ago. His nominator was Razorflame and NonvocalScream closed the election. I don't care who you are, that's funny right there. Haha. One-day election. Nice. It's just further proof that Simple is being run by children. A one-day election. And for checkuser. That's just pathetic. |

"Bottled Spider" - how about you go back in your bottle and put the lid on so no one can hear you, because no one gives a fuck what you think? What do you know about the project anyway? Very little by the sound of it. Please crawl back under the rock from where you came from, thx. This whole thread is hilarious. Why all the whining about a project you obviously all hate? Have you not got better ways to spend your lives, other than bitching about people and their hobbies? Oh... didn't think so. Razor, I recommend you don't try arguing with the children here. Children always want their own way, whether they're right or wrong. Just carry on on Simple and ignore the trolls here. Some people here have legitimate criticisism, others don't. You've found the ones that don't. Wow, Majorly. You are one of the few supporters of the SEW here (Giggy no longer contributes), and you choose to throw that all away by being immature and insulting Bottled Spider and the other negative people, dismissing them as "trolls." You had the opportunity to prove us wrong...instead, I now have no faith in the future of SEW with Eptalon and you as its leaders, with the retirement of Creol, Archer7, Gwib, and Cometstyles. |

You always react this way, Mr. Majorly. Why is that? I'll start considering it a "hobby" when Wikipedia stops getting preferential Google rankings and allows the rest of the internet to develop organically in the way it should have all along, with responsible idiots writing relative stable content instead of irresponsible idiots writing totally non-stable content. Until then, I'm afraid it's not a "hobby," it's a "vicious attack on our fundamental cultural values." |

Wow, Majorly...... You are one of the few supporters of the SEW here (Giggy no longer contributes), and you choose to throw that all away by being immature and insulting Bottled Spider and the other negative people, dismissing them as "trolls." Let's be honest, here. The slimy little shit could be right. The vast majority of those negative guys who don't like him are mostly trolls. Except me. I didn't even do anything, and was civil throughout this whole mess. And as for him now being a checkuser on some daft little Wiki that no-one cares about (oh god jesus christ no ... no!!!).... well, that's because the electorate who "voted" him in are all numpties. His own general shortcomings and zero personality are merely incidental. Yes. |

I just read over it. It wasn't one day, but it was supposed to run a week (ending tomorrow) and it was closed four days early, with opposition. That's epic bullshit and Majorly, NVS and the rest of them should be ashamed of themselves. It just proves every point made about the shoddy running of that project. Completely irresponsible. |

Do Checkusers have that privledge across projects (i.e. can se.wp Checkuser use that button on en.wp?) Thank God for that. They have access to the global checkuser list though, which contains private information about enwp editors. I am unsure if they can still see the checkuser logs on other projects, which is basically a permanent record of all checked users' IPs. |

Do Checkusers have that privledge across projects (i.e. can se.wp Checkuser use that button on en.wp?) More importantly, do they get to use Φoton TORpedoes in alternate universes, or just this one? I mean, assuming they keep their BarnStorm points up to level, of course. Ja³ |

It was interesting to read, and discuss, and I became more of a regular here later in the year. As of late, all this place seems to be is petty bitching from a bunch of angry and cynical individuals, with nothing better to do with their time. I can't believe people care that much about Simple.wp. Yes, it is a bit of a joke sometimes, but most of the editors are good decent people who care about the project. This place is becoming a joke. It seems every other thread is an attack on me or something/someone I like, mostly baseless mud slinging for the sake of it. I spent the last month refraining from posting; as each day goes by, this place gets worse and worse. I'm not the only one who thinks this, and has stopped regularly posting. And FYI, CheckUser requests are often closed early, and mine was closed totally within policy. |

The problem with Simple is that nobody understands what a Simple English Encyclopedia is intended to be, least of all the simpletons who think that it must be easy to write a Simple English encyclopeida without understanding how to write plain English, let alone simple English. The leadership of that project might gain some respect if they spent a bit of time defining the parameters of the task rather than herding the gerbils over the cliffs. It is a difficult task and requires good communication skills which your average teenager is unlikely to have. Unfortunately, it seems to be seen as a toy encyclopedia rather than a means to being the flagship version targeted at say Jimbo's dusty child. I bet if you asked half the editors what they were up to, they would not have the wit to know it was supposed to be an encyclopedia for those with limited language skills, but not necessarily limited intelligence. Forget about Wikipedia governance games, and if you really are committed to the project rather than Wikipedia - Teh Game, spend a few weeks getting some writing guides into shape, and work out how to put together a writing tutorial or online seminars. Oh, and find someone who does know about Simple English and implement flagged revisions, even if that means there are only 5 articles worthy of flagging. |

Explaining things in simple terms is usually harder than in technical terms (go read the manual for any piece of electronic equipment, with the honorable exception of Apple, to see for yourself), otherwise we'd write the whole of Wikipedia in simple English. I'm not saying you (Alex) are necessarily one of them, but too many people see Simple Wikipedia as "Training Wheels Wikipedia" and use it as a dumping ground for Wikipedia's cranks and nutjobs ('Your "this band is so cool" article isn't what we're looking for, have you tried Simple?' or 'Your writing style is terrible, go try Simple'). For example, as I write this your main page includes "A baseball uniform is a special kind of uniform that baseball players wear. They mostly do this to show that their job is related to playing the sport, baseball." This isn't "simple English", this is "patronising English"; the "real" Wikipedia article starts off with "A baseball uniform is a type of uniform worn by baseball players", which is simpler than Simple's version. |

What I say is - Simple Checkuser buttons for Simple English Checkusers. Essentially that means a nice round graphical button with the words "Press Here" written (prominently) on it. Maybe a few sound effects too, including a rude farting sound every time they miss, which will be often. I mean, look who it is! For example, as I write this your main page includes "A baseball uniform is a special kind of uniform that baseball players wear. They mostly do this to show that their job is related to playing the sport, baseball." No. No no no. That just won't do. Too complicated; too wordy. "Uniform for playing baseball". That's all that's needed for Simple. And no hyperlinks either. They just make you have to read stuff. |

Stick it to them that simply, and maybe they'll GET it. Unless they're stupid. Which I fear is the problem. Reference to Bill Cosby's famous monolog: Children Are Stupid. A problem fortunately often fixable, with time. PS: later edit. I've told the story before about a lot of maintenance manuals for heavy equipment like bulldozers, written in Basic English for non-speakers on Pacific Islands during WWII. And they were written with appropriate non patronising really straightforward style. Years later, a lot of people were shocked to find many mechanics of normal intelligence, and who were native English speakers, using those manuals! In preference to all the others available to them. How a technical writing prof of mine loved to tell that tale! |
