Ottava Rima is an interesting character, for a number of reasons.

He initially did a good deed, successfully correcting some of the more glaring errors in the BLP of Rosalind Picard.

However, he was caught in the middle between the powerful (if ethically challenged) IDCab clique (FeloniousMonk, KillerChihuahua, et al) and the handful of voices in the wilderness calling for an incremental improvement in ethical practices.

Ottava Rima bounced back and forth between the powerful forces of systemic corruption vs the powerless calls for improved ethics, ultimately siding with the indefatigable power clique.

I'm not sure what his original intent was in coming to W-R, but he eventually adopted an express goal (which he subsequently acknowledged) of proving that W-R was no better than WP when in comes to unjust banning. His tactic was to be as obnoxious as possible so that W-R would ban him, thereby (to his mind) proving his thesis.

I was not in favor of banning or gagging Ottava Rima, for the simple reason that I wanted this site to demonstrate a more enlightened approach that might have found its way back to WP. I would have preferred that Ottava Rima be limited to a select forum or thread here where those of us with considerably more patience (and more interest in discovering how to deal with problematic cases) might have been afforded a chance to explore alternatives short of binding and gagging. I had hoped that Ottava Rima's commitment to Catholic theology might have provided an opening to reprise a conversation about best ethical practices in the face of grinding corruption.

I regret that I was not afforded that chance.

Ottava Rima has been doing his best to stir up BADSITES hysteria against WR lately.

Lately? Ottava brings up the Review whenever there is an RFAR of someone who participates here, and at all other opportunities besides. Ottava also has the distinction of being one of the very few people ever banned from here (for hysterical religion-baiting, if I recall).
Someone ought to point that out at Wikipedia the next time he makes a fuss about the WR.

Uh, because the Roman Catholic Church is one of the world's foremost examples of "grinding corruption"? It seems hard to believe that this argument would have made much headway with Ottava. If you were going to hold them up as an example of "best ethical practices", well, that would have been a hard sell with almost everyone else.

No, you misunderstand my point. It's not about the Catholic church, but about Catholic theology which derives from the teachings of Jesus. And it's not about argumentation. It's about dialogue.

As you know, Jimbo shut down the dialogue about best ethical practices at Wikiversity, where Ottava Rima was caught in the middle. I was hoping to revive that dialogue with him here, where Jimbo (or his IDCab goons) could not shut it down.

Alas, Somey shut it down by banning Ottava here, just as Jimbo had done it (the other way around) at Wikiversity.

I just felt the need to post to show that I still have an account, haven't scrambled my password (or joined the CIA for that matter), and haven't been banned.

So here I am, posting :-).

(Hi guys! Yes, I still read the Review.)

Jenna, Viridae, Dan, and Malleus:
you should know better than to argue with Ottava on wiki,
where he has a willing audience for his anti-WR invective.

QUOTE
Let's face it people - whilst we've got Eric Barbour desperately imploring you to read his blog, Kato doing endless "round ups" in the hope of getting noticed and HerschelKerdojaymaflip moving posts from forum to forum to stave of either boredom or insanity does anyone honestly think WR is going to achieve anything more than WT:RFA........(i.e. precious darn little) Pedro : Chat 19:54, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Ah ha ha. You have posted a lot on WR before, so it can't be that awful.

QUOTE
It's not the fact that they participate that I believe is the issue, it's how they conduct themselves on the site. One of our most respected administrators (Newyorkbrad) remains stellar whenever he posts to WR and I don't think one person could fault him for what he does there. Other regular WP contributors give less than ideal performances when they go to WR - they use it as an excuse to flaunt the lack of civility policies and generally use it as a forum to slag off people they don't like here, rather than do it to the persons face (we expect discussion with a user who you have a problem with here, rather than running off to another forum). So to reiterate, participation at WR isn't inherently bad, but conduct there can have an impact on how people view your overall demeanor and suitability for adminship. Gee, Mr. Postlethwaite, if I logged into your "encyclopedia" and tried to comment
on your insecure arrogant incompetence, you'd block me and thus silence me.

Still horked off because I called you a "pathetic doctrinaire nerd" last month?
What have you done lately to disabuse my opinion of you?

But keep up the bad work, garden shop employee and attempted football hooligan.
Maybe next year, you'll win the DICK Of Distinction Award.
