The 2010 Wikipedia Review "WP:DICK of Distinction", Nominations close Sunday night! Options

The annual pageant is a hallowed tradition here at the Review (new members, read this for some background.) Although traditionally, to compete for the grand WP:DICK of Distinction prize, the contestant must be an active admin, we at the Program and Catering Committee have been mulling this over on our sooper-sekrit P&C-L mailing list, and we would like to propose that admins defrocked over the past year should be eligible. First of all, the fact that they were defrocked may mean that they did something Notable. But mainly, we want to put forward the long-overdue nomination of Wild Bill Connolley for this award.

Here are the categories for nomination:

and for the good guys...

the Straight Shooter award for honest admins

and the Cojones de latón, for the non-admin who has distinguished himself in combat with the cabal

Someone has to nominate Davy Geroid for DoD again, because, well it has to be done. Though he might be more of a cinch for Miss Incongeniality. Besides the already nominated climate doc, Ft2, Jossi and Sammy Blackletter should serve as dishonorable mentions.

I also nominate Misters J. Van B and K. Lokshin for straight shooters.

For Cojones de latón I second Cla's nomination.

Gerard's already in the Dick Emeritus stage. Re-awarding is just redundant and boring, like giving Meryl Streep an Oscar every year. Unless Gerard wins the WP Comeback from Dickhood of the Year award (to then get requalified for recognition of distinctive dickishness) after doing penance, good deeds (something Thatcher has been working diligently on for the last couple of years since the Cabal Fall), apologising to Utah, Cla68, and having a personality transplant, there's not much point in pointing it out.

Another Dick idea.....there's a very different sort of dickishness found in the American variety of Wikidicks (think Mongo - loud, unimaginative bullies) than found in English Wikidicks (Gerard archetype for the Overly detached, Jzg for the full-on English Nutter). If too many distinctive Dicks (resisting quoting Reservoir Dogs here) are to be found on the WP, maybe subcategories by nationality or age group are in order.

Another Dick idea.....there's a very different sort of dickishness found in the American variety of Wikidicks (think Mongo - loud, unimaginative bullies) than found in English Wikidicks (Gerard archetype for the Overly detached, Jzg for the full-on English Nutter).

I think it is risky to over-generalize. For example, Wild Bill Connelley, from the U.K., strikes me as having a MONGO-like style.

Hmm, ok I want some moving around up there.

Add Thatcher to Dick of Distinction - while he may be a "straight shooter" in some (easy) cases more often then not he plays the role "clueless arrogant admin" to a T. And the guy's got only like 10% of his edits in actual content, with the rest being user talk page politicking (which is how the clueless part comes in)

I'll leave MBisanz out of this for the moment except to comment that "straight" shooting is about the last thing I've ever seen from him.

Move/add Sandstein down to the Straight Shooter category. Yes, his banhammer swings a little heavy (but then, it should, working on AE). Yes, he's often ruled in ways that I disagreed with (so much so that some people had wondered at one point if he wasn't a sekrit member of the Greater Germany Uber Alles cabal). But looking over the past year or so I got to say that one thing Sandstein has always been is fair and impartial. I don't mind stricter rules and heavier penalties as long as the rules are transparent and their application even and unbiased. And Sandstein has personified that at AE.

Along the same lines, add Manning to the Straight Shooter cat, though that's not quite the appropriate one. But again, the idea is basic fairness and even-handedness (even though he banned me once from the ArbCom page - I deserved it).

Plus I should note that both Sandstein and Manning have been driven off - the first from AE, the other from Wikipedia as a whole - by the usual Wikipedia hypocrisies and stupidities so both deserve some kind of a "purple heart" here.

I'm sorry but I'm missing the allegory - are you saying that us common people have something against Napoleon, I was a Napoleon some them, common people, had something against or what exactly? Do you understand the picture you linked to?

Regardless, as long as we're on Pancho-G, I think this one is more appropriate to the situation.

And.... I'm still lost. Yes, Sandstein and Manning leaving AE and Wiki, respectively, AFAIK had nothing to do with any mailing list. First one got disgusted with being harassed and lack of ArbCom support for admins who were actually putting their reps on the line doing thankless work at AE enforcing ArbCom's very decisions, and the second one ... honestly don't know 100% except to have noticed the super-nastiness that appeared on Wiki.
Unless you're saying somehow that these two had something to do with the mailing list. Keep on with the crazy then.

Tarantino was the one who pointed it out here. The accusation was made by an IP on Wikipedia here. He was never seen since.
