I think I may have discovered the most batshit-crazy argument I've ever seen on Wikipedia. I have read this top-to-bottom three times and it still doesn't make the slightest sense to me at any point. But they're obviously all very upset about something. If I read it correctly, the significance of goldfish in Iranian culture.

One guy wants to use as evidence, an article that mentions a painting which can't be older than 1909, due to the photo on the wall of some guy who wasn't king before then. The cite for the statement that "goldfish are important to Zoroastrianism" merely makes mention of this 20th century drawing and says the goldfish shown THERE is apparently symbolical of the actual fish that IS important to the religion, the Kara Māhi (black fish) which is apparently something else entirely, since goldfish (a type of golden Chinese carp) are a late addition to Europe (17th century) and even later to Iran (19th century). This is explained to the insane editor and it makes no impression, except to cause him to fulmanate about Khomeni and changing history. Ah, Wikipedia.  |
