Jimbo quoted here :
QUOTE "The issue that I have with WikiLeaks is they have a tendency to just want to publish absolutely everything, and I think that can be very, very dangerous," Wales told a business conference in Malaysia's largest city, Kuala Lumpur. "I don't think (WikiLeaks founder) Julian Assange wants those people killed. However, if he irresponsibly follows the policy of releasing absolutely everything, it is incredibly dangerous for those people. Can you say BLP, Jimbo? Also, Jimbo denies any connection to Wikileaks and thinks that it is "unfortunate" that they use the terms "wiki" : QUOTE "I have absolutely nothing to do with WikiLeaks and I don't even approve of what they are doing," he said. "I would distance myself from WikiLeaks. I wish they wouldn't use the name. They are not a wiki." |

Yah. Let me cry bullshit too.
But, let's face it, it was the "World Capital Markets Symposium" so he was playing the establishment card because, let's face it, the establishment pays better than Free Kultur Freaks when it comes to conference gigs. Funny how for the World Capital Markets Symposium, Jimmy Wales is the Founder but for ABC News, he is the co-founder QUOTE “Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge...To create and distribute a free encyclopedia of the highest possible quality to every single person on the planet in their own language-That’s who I am. That’s what I am doing. That’s my life goal.” -Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia. As part of his work at his for-profit company, Wikia, Inc., Mr. Wales is developing a human-powered search engine, Search Wikia, which will be based on the same open, transparent, community-driven principles of Wikia and Wikipedia.t to double in the next five to 10 years (with the majority of new users arising from developing nations), Mr. Wales asserts that internet will combat stereotypes, censorship, media control, and monopolies while simultaneously allowing citizens of developing nations to have a more prominent voice. Yes, Jummy, that and the 1,000 white penises. |

Yah. Let me cry bullshit too. <snip> Yes, Jummy, that and the 1,000 white penises. Yeah, and they still haven't found any black/asian/indian/etc ones yet...And you'd think that they'd know where to look by now! I guess this means that Wikipedia contributors are more interested in showing off their own peens rather than educating that little girl in Africa... Meanwhile, over in the press section, we get articles like "Wikipedia Man Slamdunks Wikileaks"... Haven't we been through this before? How come nobody else has caught on? |

Let's face it, Jimbo's media star has been fading. So, he's just picking on a minor scandal-du-jour to get some more press coverage. As if any real business with shareholders and payroll to meet actually CARES what Jimbo thinks of WikiLeaks. It's just a concern of such small scale and triviality -- "they're not even a wiki, boo hoo" -- that it's a wonder why "the press" picks up on this.
(Actually, I see that this isn't really "the press". It's just the global news-feed republishing circuit, regurgitating the same Agence France-Presse story.) ![]() |

Wikileaks has demonstrated more responsibility than Wikipedia ever has. WL does not permit immediate posting of content but requires that everything it publishes is first reviewed. It pre-released the "war dump" to major media outlets, providing a chance to verify and assess before the material was made public. It delayed publication of 15,000 of the most sensitive documents for additional vetting. It was only after Mr.Wales' Free Kulture pals lavished hero worship upon Assange that he went off the deep end with his cyrpto-anarchist nonsense and refused to engage the Obama administration in dialog concerning the material. Maybe Mr. Wales' hypocritical rant will cause a split with the Free Kulture extremists and they will think twice before carrying his water the next time he gets into trouble over his massive online porn collection or he loots another museum.

There's a Wikipedia essay about this confusing problem. Why can't the media read that?

I wonder if there's a brave soul here who would post that link on Jimbo's Talk page, and ask him his opinion of the essay and how he might improve it or make it more accurate. |

...but then Jimbo is reported as complaining about Malaysia's censorship.
I wish he'd get his stories straight. He has nothing to do with WikiLeaks though Wikipedia owns WikiLeaks domains, and he disapproves of censorship but seems to have no problems with the various websites within his purview suppressing critical comment on a regular basis. |

He has nothing to do with WikiLeaks though Wikipedia owns WikiLeaks domains, and he disapproves of censorship but seems to have no problems with the various websites within his purview suppressing critical comment on a regular basis. It is a safe 'technical lie'. 'HE' has nothing to do with Wikileaks even if Wikipedia/Wikimedia does because HE is not Wikipedia, except which it suits him and he gets paid lots to speak about it. He said, "I want to write that information (on sites like user-generated Wikipedia) so that my fellow citizens have the knowledge they need so they can't be oppressed." He meant, QUOTE I want to write that information (on sites like user-generated Wikipedia) so that my fellow citizens have the knowledge my admins will allow, so they can't be oppressed except my admins." There are in two entirely different leagues. Wikileaks is playing with the big boys in the first division where people die and go missing, where lives are saved and international policies are created to stop people being exploited. Is he doing a Jedi mind trick, or is he misinformed, or is there some kind of legal mumbo-jumbo in the background that while Wikia, Inc. holds the reservation, they are contractually "owned" by some third party. Or, does he view "Michael Davis" as the owner, but not wearing his Wikia, Inc. hat? In any respect, his dismissive answer without providing some form of explanatory proof is just sloppy and rude. Typical Jimbo. May I call on someone to please post these links to Jimbo's talk page, asking him to explain them in light of his answer? http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/wikileaks.net http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/wikileaks.com http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/wikileaks.us |
