I might try to make a more sophisticated one later. Witty script-writing suggestions wanted.

I wish the speech translator was a bit smoother, but we need many, many of these.

Somebody do the Jimbo/Marsden IM chat transcript, please.

Could you post a link to that transcript?

It's necessary to outfox the speech generator. With practice I can improve it. I had to spell out "Pee Oh Vee" and put quotations around certain words for emphasis in order to get the software not to slur it.

It would involve some image-to-text retyping, but the best stuff is here. Some of the lines might need to be re-ordered to keep the conversation flow meaningful. Sometimes with IM chat, one person will get ahead of the other.

For that use Speakonia and set the pitches of the voices at maximum level! Laughs are guaranteed!

In case, just give me a link to the transcript!!! laugh.gif

Also, who knew that Wikipedia not only doesn't have an article about "machine oil", there's not even a redirect in place.

I do not like machine oil. It frightened my mother once. I should run for admin and become the 'anti-fringe view' cabal on machine oil.

By the way, in Wikipedia's article about Lubricant, in the sub-section about publications, they misspell the name of the trade magazine, Lubes'n'Greases. Wikipedia has it erroneously as Lubes n’ Greases.

You really can't trust anything in Wikipedia.

Good thing there's an alternate reference resource where you can quickly learn about machine oil.

Stray apostrophes aren't safe around Greg. The weed of misplaced apostrophes bears bitter fruit. I'll bet his wife attaches keys and other stuff to big apostrophies, knowing that if Things Go Bad, Greg can always smell them out for her.

Mod's note: I have moved this thread to "General Discussion," because I believe that these videos are of universal interest to all who study the Wikipedia phenomenon.

There is something inherently hilarious about these movies. For example:

http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/6995033/

The script here is excellent, but the deadpan delivery by the "actors" adds to the comedic power. I think the same thing is at work with Blimp's movie as well: human actors would only ruin it.

One that may require human actors, though, is the "Wikipedia as surgeon" script. Maybe someone should forward it to Dave Mitchell and Robert Webb...

It would be good if we could arrange it so that these videos rank high on YouTube searches for "Wikipedia." Any suggestions?

Xtranormal videos are becoming evil.

YouTube apparently thinks "Introduction to psychoanalysis" and "Introduction to free energy" are related to this one. Hmmm.... it might be on to something.

Probably the best we could do is to ensure "Wikipedia" is the first word in the title of the video as posted to Youtube. Other than that, I vaguely recall that they rank the results based on a formula that involves number-of-views and user ratings, don't they?

EVIL, I tell you.

They do seem to be on the cusp of being either a huge fad, or a Whole New Creative Paradigm. If I were in the ISP business, I'd be scared shitless. People are going to start using these things in place of text-messaging and posting to Facebook, and the difference in bandwidth-usage is obviously enormous.
