Just a running thread to discover interesting things said by Jimbo, or about Jimbo, from the 1990's.

From the talk.philosophy.misc mailing list:
QUOTE
In article <CAKMAx....@usenet.ucs.indiana.edu> jwa...@silver.ucs.indiana.edu
(Jimmy -Jimbo- Wales) writes:

One of the first rules of authentic
discussion and debate is the passionate commitment to leave aside the
"ad hominem" fallacy.

If anyone else had put a superfluous apostrophe in a thread title, we'd assume ignorance or carelessness. In Greg's case, it's obviously a test to see who spots it first! biggrin.gif

From the former Pam Wales (Jimbo's first wife, a co-worker of his at a grocery store):

QUOTE
To him, altruism was evil,” remembers Pam, who says that Wales therefore discouraged her from pursuing a nursing degree when they were married. “His whole ‘Mr. Save the World’ is so contrary to what he said every day for seven years.

Just following the standard of The New York Times, up until Merrill Perlman came along.

Here's Jimmy in 2001 on a mailing list that discusses transhumanism and the Singularity.

I also have an archive of his blog from 2002-2003. He later deleted it when he reinvented his public persona. His current blog only goes back to October 2004.
