Jimbo unbans Brexx unilaterally, and all hell breaks loose. Options

Oops! It looks like Jimmy just got a notion to unban Brexx, who's been socking for, like, years now. Every time he wades in with the sysop buttton, mayhem ensues. Whether you agree or not about "banned means banned" and the effectiveness of banning anyone in the first place, you still have to question the wisdom of this move.

So can I just go ahead and unban, say, TheKohser with a simple "Behave yourself, I'm sure many people will be watching"?

In unblocking this guy Jimbo is keen to show that past crimes are meaningless on Wikipedia - unless you really are persona non-gratis, it's all about the future: Keep your nose clean (and our asses clean) and you won't get blocked and will "be fine". I think a large reason for this is the amount of admin with clearly dodgy pasts who are swimming through their Afd's at the moment (boy are they desperate for admin). But there is a kind of logic for him too: Wikipedia is a friendly uncle who will always allow you back, even he kicks you out again before the break of day.

Remember - above all: commitment to the projekt. If you really want to be fully banned you need to seriously critical of Wikipedia - how you've abused socks and POV etc in the past in neither here nor there to them. Just don't do it (or get caught at it) again.
