I often still hear: “Yes, Twitter, wonderful, but no business model.” Well, that's not completely true today, as Twitter might double its revenues in 2012, from $139.5M to $259M. Not bad. Also, not enough, as losses for First Quarter 2011 might still ...

Twitter has a certain amount in common with Wikipedia. Anyone can post, and people turn to it as a source of news and information. Of course, it has advantages over Wikipedia. Eminent people freely post under their own names, and their tweets thus carry greater weight. I doubt that say Stephen Fry or Lady Gaga would have WP accounts, and ceertainly they don't post there publicly.

agreed. If twitter can't succeed, something else will replace it. the public is supposed to support it as a non-profit? horrible. twitter eliminates all context and makes soundbites king. sure, if you want to know what every dipshit D-list celebrity thinks about Trayvon Martin, you can find it. but there's no way this is an arguably noble cause.
