But in case anyone is still reading this stuff, Mr. Fred here is pro-porn, while Mr. Ottava is decidedly anti-porn. So, naturally, there is conflict. Unfortunately, Ottava's strident and divisive denunciations of everyone who opposes him have made him persona non grata in most of the venues where Wikipedia issues are discussed, including this one, so his only remaining option is to apologize (however sincerely or insincerely, though I suspect sincerity matters little to the average Commons admin) and hope they take him back.

However silly and petty the whole business ultimately is, they would be wise not to underestimate him. Many of them claim that he can be "easily reblocked," and therefore there would be little harm in what's being suggested. But while that might be true from a purely technical standpoint, from an internal-political standpoint it's simply not the case.

I love that argument, seriously. Someone (not O, but anyone) comes to WP and shits all over everything in that passive way that takes forever to explain to an admin. Other WP editors do their due diligence, file the reports, wait for the admins to notice, explain what's going on and how long this editor has been pushing the rules, and finally something is done about it.

Except later on, an admin lifts the block. He can be easily reblocked if he does anything wrong, of course. So for all you editors who spent time jumping through hoops trying to keep this guy from taking a longterm dump in the wiki, thanks for all of your wasted time.

It's just another scenario that helps people understand how worthless their time spent on WP really is. Good show.

An exceptionally good point, and I might add that it applies just as readily to criticism forums as it does to the wikis that are being criticized by them.
