Not a very nice thing to say.

The most offensive content no longer appears on the now archived talk page. There are no warnings or admonishments concerning this posting from JVM's various "attending admins." JVM has created five archives of his talk page since returning on May 2.

This diff is reported on the SCOX Yahoo forum. There it is characterized as hate speech. I assume Mormons have discussion boards but I don't know how to find them.

Come on one can find anything on the interent thanks to google and rivals eg http://www.google.hn/search?q=mormon+discu...:en-US:official blink.gif

Damn. I should have thought of that. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I could have Googled it. I still think I might beg off actually parsing the Mormon discussion boards. At least for the moment.

Here's one:

http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index.php...st&p=1208154417

They're even using the same board software as us, though I think their version is more up-to-date.

And here's another one, with BLP overtones:

So that is what Mormons talk about on their discussion boards---Wikipedia. Also the second one is just plain scary in how close in tone and attitude it is to us. I believe if you read WR with special prism eye-glasses it becomes mormondiscussions.com.

I took a look at some of the Mormon pages on wikipedia. This page is ridiculous. After wading through streams of wild eyed nonsense about a secret race of people who traveled to the Americas, sparsely graced with the obligatory "according to.." - we find the below sentence nestled in the lower half of the penultimate paragraph.

QUOTE
However, no archaeological finding, as yet, has been accepted by the non-Mormon archaeological community as indisputable evidence that Nephites existed or have any historical connection to Native Americans.

I'm sorry but surely that essential truth should be (1) in the lead and (2) dominating the rest of the article. All this talk about Jewish POV pushers, I think its the Mormons that take the prize.

Well... they're an aggressively proselytizing religion, and they know the value of propaganda, so it's not surprising that they'd talk about a site that's both publicly editable and gets such high Google rankings. As for the similarities, you'll find that sort of thing all over the place. When people who aren't Wikipedians talk seriously about Wikipedia, it's usually fairly negative. People don't usually join web forums to wax effusively about things in general anyway...

No wonder there are so many puppies in the world, then.

Admittedly, I like puppies...

I think anyone could say the same about any important claim (other than ethical standards and calls for compassion) of just about any revealed religion. I guess the idea is to accurately describe what people believe, or what major figures said, not what actually happened. I'm certainly in no position to comment on Mormonism. I think one factor that makes Mormons unique is that many important events of the faith occurred in North America at a time when there were trains, photographs, telegraphs, newspapers, and steam engines.

Of course I am not a tenured professor with multiple PhDs in theology. But then who really is?

Nature and reproduction is based entirely on abundance so God kills lots of puppies every day.

Well, Merkey has declared yet another "wikibreak", and then blanked his userpage. But true to pattern, this does not appear to have even slowed down his editing spree on Mormon related articles, most particularly the Reformed Egyptian article. This could get interesting.
