I have never really believed that there is just one person using that account, and my reasons for thinking so are not entirely dependent on the length of editing sessions or the number of edits.

I think that she has probably hired one or more people to generate tons and tonnes of innocuous-looking edits, partly as a way of laying up credits with the community and the hire-archy, but more importantly as a way of throwing the scent off her real agenda.

That's 31 edits in 2 minutes on December 13th and 17 edits in 2 minutes on December 14th. Not only that but the December 14th edits begin exactly 24 hours and 1 minute after he stopped editing on the 13th.

As G-Dett points out on Jayjg's talk page:

Slim does seem to have different personalities at different times, though I put it down to the bad-temperedness of lack of sleep. My other theory is that the team forget whether they are editing as Crum or Slim or the other hand.

Another theory, perhaps Slim is having to work overtime as her Puerto Rican lapdog Cerejota (Civility is at the heart of it all, so don't poison the well, Thanks!) dropped off the face of the earth after a most peculiar last edit during the Lost Weeks of Slim.

How do you finance a career editing this much on something you don't get paid for?

Do we know that? It seems unlikely as Linda Mack (per Patrick Byrne) only had a very brief romantic relationship with one of the victims. No marriage, engagement, children etc. She was also active in an organized effort of a survivor's group, but I don't see how she would have any standing for compensation.
Saltimbanco
But she wasn't a relative; just a girlfriend, right? Is there any record of Linda Mack being among the compensated surviving relatives?

That guy narrowly evaded a ban by putting at the end "Big smooch – see you in the ring – grrrr – welcome back Jay!"

I realize that the subtitle is probably intended to be humorous, but it's probably irresponsible to let it stand now that everyone has had a good yuck.

I don't think so. If she did, it would have been though Julian Benello's parents. At the end of last August, I talked to someone who met Benello's parents, and his feeling is that they were only vaguely aware of Linda Mack. Based on this, I don't think we can claim that Mack got compensation without further evidence.

Hasn't she been living in Canada in a similar way?

Seriously, though, as much as Linda has noted how she and other uber-admins have a preternatural ability to recognize sock puppets by their editing patterns, isn't it odd that she would have a burst of editing that would tend to strain human endurance? And that Jayjg would have a burst of editing that would tent to strain the limits of human web-surfing and data entering speed? Maybe in addition to their abilities to detect sock-puppetry, they are endowed with extraordinary physical abilities.

Maybe your suspicions are correct - but... Some people are able to stay online (or do other things, like read, or write by hand) for long periods of time. They just are. Especially if they have a very intense personality like SV, then such hyperfocusing and intensity online are quite normal. When you consider the personality in question.

Do the Mormons mind if the stuff is taken intravenously? I suspect they'd object to that too...

Yes, DI, it is probably true that at least Linda Mack's editing was really what she was doing ... doing in her typically psychically messed-up way, but nonetheless doing. But haven't people been banned over less?

Have they been banned over less? People have been banned for really nothing (actually for nothing, but also for small slights).

The rules don't apply to her. That's nothing new.

I don't get it. The only remotely implausible thing I see here is a string of editing from mid-Friday to early in the morning Saturday. (I assumed she lives in the Americas; this seems to be fairly reasonable.) While that may show that she has no life, it's hardly superhuman to sit at a computer for 20 hours. And it's not editing for days without sleep, certainly.

SlimVirgin editing for days on end without sleep again
if you want to see something really interesting, merge the past month's edit histories of Slim and Crum375.

First observation: "They" can both be counted on to sleep between 5:00am and 10:00am EST.

Second observation: "They" behave differently together than they do apart.

Specifically: excluding all breaks of over four hours (only looking at periods when both are actively editing), it turns out that the average time between sequential SlimVirgin edits is 00:13:13 and the average time between sequential Crum375 edits is 00:23:54.

However, when two SlimVirgin edits are separated by at least one by Crum375, the average time jumps to 00:34:04. Likewise, when two Crum375 edits are separated by at least one by SlimVirgin, the average jumps to 00:40:16.

Why should the best predictor of a longer-than-average time between edits by one be the presence of edits by the other?

But there's more: taken together, the average time between edits by either is 00:13:51...a few seconds longer than SlimVirgin's solo cruising speed. In other words, that's the rate at which [name redacted] works, whether as SlimVirgin or Crum375.

Though I used to argue against, it, I'm now thinking SlimVirgin = Crum375.

The problem with SlimVirgin=Crum375 is that they on many occasions make edits near-simultaneously. It's very suspicious that both of them concentrate solely on the animal testing article, but whatever's going on isn't simple sockpuppetry.

There's the theory of multiple people being hired. It'd be nice if a checkuser can tell us if either of their IPs jump between distant cities.

I think that users should be quietly and automatically blocked when they are online for like 12 hours. It can't be healthy for the encyclopedia or the editor if they go to bed and set their alarm for 5 hours later so they can get up and EDIT WIKIPEDIA

This only adds to my mental vision of SlimVirgin occassionally editing with hair all a-mess and eyes bulging. Unless she gets lifeless and dull from lack of sleep, rather than twitchy and strained...

That is some very nice analysis there Word. See also my other posts and here. I think it is highly likely Crum is SlimVirgin's sockpuppet account but she tries to make it look like on the surface that it is not by making edits in quick succession between the two accounts (probably using two browsers). Therefore if the SlimVirgin and Crum accounts are supporting each other on policy issues, in article content, and double voting then this is obviously completely unacceptable.

on another thread, I tried to do some CSI-Profiler brainsturming on the Crummy. My conclusions were that he was a male hockey fan from canada with piloting experience.

that's not to say that he and slimmy don't "co-operate" to the extreme.

it's also possible that he allows slimmy to use his account. Anyone thinking that this sort of thing never occurs on WP are....wikinaive.

The Strangest (and first) thing I encountered with Crummy was this:

1 - SV put in an edit summary that i was a sockpuppet

2 - I queried SV on her talk page why she said this.

3 - SV reverted my question

4 - I highlighted this incident on my user page

5 - weeks later, SV's talk page was vandalised with the usual "Yo Linda, whaddup?" stuff

6 - At the same time that SV and Crum375 were active on WP, undercover of a dark & sturmy night, Crum375 pulled off an unprecedented (no one had ever done this to SV's page but herself) delete and selective restore under the guise of privacy. Why Crum felt compelled to do this while SV could have done it herself (as she had in the past) was....weird.

7- the diff showing my question & SV reverting were thrown out with the Crummy bathwater

8 - I inquired with Crummy why that occurred. I was immediately accused of being the vandal that led Crummy to start the putsche.

9 - I complained to ANI, where another "respected" editor I'd never heard of echoed my concern, both about the deletion, and the initial accusation of sockpuppetry used to poison the well

10 - Crummy's dialogue was very Slim-like in linguistic analysis, under pressure. Much like Samiharris and Mantanmoreland, who otherwise have a very thin enough degree of separation in their wiki-careers to throw sock accusations off, also devolved into very similar linguistics when pressured into a corner and lashing back out.

No from Word's analysis I think it points to both accounts being operated by one person. Do any of the edits actually indicate piloting experience?

like I said, I'm not saying that the same person has definintely not been using both of those accounts at some time. just that it didn't start out that way.

when people edit in very specific minute details on a topic that aren't immediately derived from a RS they are editing into a piece, it points to personal expertise/experience (like Samiharris on Hedge Fund operations, Chicago Exchange 1980's incidents). Crum was doing that from a pretty convincing pilot POV. I'll try and find the old Crum thread.
