Just wondered what anyone thought of Jimbo. What are your impressions of him?

I think that, overall, Jimbo is a weak leader. He lets other people do their own thing. And that is fine, and is a good management style that can work well. The problem is that while he does this 90% of the time, he then jumps in and makes changes and makes everyone jump. If he stuck with either being weak all the time or else strong all the time, then things would be fine. But as it is, he is manipulative. Many people game this, of course, by establishing power while he is weak, and then sucking up to him when he is strong. The cabal are some of the best at this. But then he goes further with such things as WP:OFFICE to fuck over the cabal, and they get pissed off about it.

Jimbo is terrible as a project leader, callously neglectful and then harshly and inappropriately interventionist by turns. He reminds me of one of the old gods, seldom concerned with the affairs of mortals, but every now and then some failing of theirs will catch his eye and he will unleash something terrible onto them.

But to be fair to him, he wasn't always as bad as he is now, I think. Two years ago, I remember having a positive impression of him; he seemed patient, polite and reasonable. I'm not exactly sure what happened.

I generally like Jimbo. Other than being terribly good looking and having made money from porn, he is also very friendly to most people. If he would just stay as a weak leader, then everything would be fine. Sure, then the cabal would have lots of weight, but natural justice would prevail as everyone would sort each other is. Right now, well, there is far too much intervention.

There are many special rules just for Jimbo. For example, anittas was banned recently by Jimbo, and while most people want to unban Anittas, they can't as only Jimbo can unban Jimbo. This is dumb.

I think we need a poll on whether Jimbo is terribly good looking.

I think he's a fucking asshole. At this point, Wikipedia seems to be viewed by him as a vehicle for self-promotion: no longer is he Jimbo Wales the porn guy, but rather he is Jimbo Wales the founder and sponsor of an important free information outlet. He gets interviewed by Newsweek rather than by Juggs, and he clearly likes that elevated sense of importance.

His interest in Wikipedia seems to be mostly external: he cares about its appearance to the rest of the world, and not very much about what is really going on within it. He would be happier to have it be mediocre but considered valuable than to have it valuable but considered mediocre. Toward that end, he is happy to stay out of the internal control of the project - as long as it continues lumbering along without blowing up, that is as much as he needs from it. He seems, however, to be short-sighted about problems in Wikipedia, being willing to stand by while an appearance of everyone being happy is promoted through censorhip and expulsion, while bigger underlying problems with the project fester and grow without being addressed.

Look at this edit , "the coin is a bit over the top too, please... I am a quiet ordinary person". LOL

It always makes my skin crawl to see the smarmy, sycophantish messages left on Wales' talk page. If these don't help to ingratiate their writers into the power structure of Wikipedia, someone should let them know.

We've got his photos. Anyway I guess its a matter of opinion, but he certainly looks very swave in that suit he likes to pose with. Certainly beats Snowspinner any day of the week.

I give his look a 7 out of 10.

I suspect there have been some backroom dealings involving a lot of money, so that he turns a blind eye to the most abusive admins, who are likely paid to manipulate Wikipedia.

Perhaps we can let the female members decide how good-looking Jimbo is.

Even though there are lots of sycophantic messages on Jimbo's talk page, no-one has added him to the "good-looking Wikipedians" category yet. Perhaps that is a job for Wikipedia review?

As far as assessment of Jimbo, we only have eight votes but I'm interested that three people agree that Jimbo is quite manipulative. When I proposed this poll originally I was thinking about that. I feel like Jimbo's talk is somewhat different from his actions.

I don't think Jimbo is good looking at all. I mean, he's a good person (mostly from what I can see, not as though I know him enough to tell completely) but he's not exactly attractive
