Few articles have appeared that have showed where various people and businesses have started to donate to Wikimedia with conditions on how that money will be spent. It may be a sign for the end of open donations being made towards Wikimedia.
For some reason I have a hunch that some of it is in result to many people being openly blocked and then have conditions set on their unblock.
Recently, Wikimedia was offered a rather large amount of money to change some features, and Wikimedia has accepted. I don't think they wanted to publicly announce exactly which features, as that might upset uhm... "vested contributors."
No word on when or how the changes will roll out as of yet, but some of it is R&D money to research a better way.
