Terrible name! I'd suggest they call it "Yougle" or "SearchMe," but most people wouldn't get those names either... "Oursearch" or "YouFoundIt" would work too. I guess all those domains were taken, along with "Citizendium." laugh.gif

Can't blame them, though - domain-name availability is a problem for everybody these days. But he probably wants to call it "Wiki"-something regardless, though, for branding and promotional purposes.

I still think that "Wikisarah" would probably be the most up-front name. For instance, a search on "Tampa Hotels" would spit out a list of Tampa hotels that meet with the personal approval of Sarah Mc. The same brand of McPov filtering would of course apply to every other search.

As far as the ethics of terminology goes -- not very far in that highly viscous Wikimedium -- I guess it's not too surprising that Wales would try to pull the same brand of usurpation as Gates did with MSIE. Wales would have us believe that Wikipedia is all there is to Wikis much as Gates would have us believe that the Internet is nothing but an MS appendage.

What is surprising is that anybody else plays along ...
