Full Version: WP:DENY is considered policy?

I looked through Ryulong's contributions again. While he constantly deletes peoples' userpages of all except for those who request it like "Mrs random" of whom he will not delete her userpage.

Well I saw on September 19th, Ryulong deleted sock puppet tags in mass claiming the mere essay WP:DENY supercedes the policy WP:SOCK. The socks were banned by Checkuser, too.

This is only the latest in non-policy WP:DENY used as The Prime Directive.

Ryulong — I think that's Dragon-Dragon or ∑ting in cross-cult Japanese-Chinese bi-lingo — aka Hao Rong Ryu™, aka Denno Coil™, ¬2b≈? Denny Colt™, aka Baby Spice Pow-War Ranger™, aka Ichi-Ban-Trigger-Finger-O-Fate™, aka Mister Samurai Nite V'ger™, aka Tele-Tubby-Terminator-Three (TTT3)™, and no doubt a host of other e-pathetic e-pithets that I can't recall right now, is one of the Few, the Brave, the Proud™ who truly grok the OGIFT OGEEKS that Wikipedia is meant to be.

Maybe that Sho™Gun name gives us a clue to his deep emersion in the SlumVassal Honor-&-Offer Code of Archaic Sho™Gunate Kultur. Maybe it's all those years he spent @ da φeet o' da Masters o' da Arcane Arcade Arts. Howevah imblued within his genes, wherevah he larned it in Trial By Drive By Fire, Flame, and FlameThroar™, it is clear that Drag-Goon Drag-Goon Ryulong is the genuwhine e-pitome of the -&-Coming Suck Peeple that Jimbo hath made, as in O brave new world that has Suck Peeple in't!

That is an interesting proposal, and I think it has a flipside as well.

WP:DENY should be addended with something like this:

QUOTE
Some people who are banned for spurious reasons have a right to disappear, and may not want to have their name associated with untrue allegations on Wikipedia, especially when their real name is used. In some cases this may amount to libel. There is no real reason to maintain lengthy pages on ANYONE who has since been banned. It does nothing more than to hurt the person in question, and try to push them towards "making Wikipedia pay" by subsequently doing something bad, even if they did nothing to deserve the ban in the first place.

Since people who do deserve it probably did it for attention, and hence shouldn't be "fed", therefore there is no rational positive reason to maintain such pages, which can be picked up by Google and quoted so easily.

Ha ha ha.

Since you're talking about Ryulong's mass deletion of Blu Aardvark sock pages, it's probably because Blu is inactive, and nearly all edits regarding those pages was by Anomo, doing what he does best, raising hell (the thing he did using the real names of admins was pretty funny). I think it's perfectly reasonable now that Blu has demonstrated that he is gone for all those pages to be deleted, for the reasons Blissyu2 stated.

WP:SOCK doesn't say that sockpuppet pages have to be kept forever, just that you can't use socks abusively

WP:DENY is a common sense idea. There is no real need to keep track of hundred of accounts that were just throw-aways or attack names. Doing so only gives attention, an example being the attention given to Cplot and his thousand sock army.

Guys, Guys, Guys, you're not really a full-blooded Adminion until you've given Caesarean Birth to your WP:VERYOWN policy, or at least raised some Poor Orphan Pup of an Ess(j)ay to the Status of Holy Terror and JunkYardChihuahua for All Occasions.

Ryulong didn't appear to delete any sock tags that the sockpuppeteer would want deleted, only stuff they probably wouldn't want deleted. If someone asked Ryulong or someone like him to delete a sock page tagged in their name they want deleted, the administrator asked would likely guard it so it'll never be deleted.

I had one brief encounter with Ryulong and guess what it was. A knee-jerk half-cocked reflex edit that blanked, then pretended it was a failed attempt to reorganize it.

My impression was of a very over-stimulated videogame addict who confused the admin keys on his wikiboard with the shootemup keys on his playstation.

It was over something about Miami U. as I recall, which must have been his home team or something. He did offer a quick apology. Everything is quick with that guy.
LamontStormstar
It looks obvious to me Ryulong didn't like CattleGirl's edits and wanted to ban her, only lying with "oops wrong button" to pretend it was an error. It's also obvious not "wrong button" since he went and deleted all of her user subpages, too.

After that, then he didn't ban anyone else with that message.

Let's see who "no constructive changes to the encyclopedia in a month" could apply to....

Curps : no edits for a long time
Jayjg : no edits for months
Larry Sanger : only talk page edits for over a month

Ryulong says it right there

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=160128260

He was all ready to ban her for life. He didn't just mistakenly press block, but took the time to delete all her userpages. He probably looked in her logs for pictures to delete and saw she was an admin or else someone told him on IRC. If she was not an administrator, he would have banned her for life with no remorse, and think nothing of it. She would have requested unblock and be denied and then have to come back on a sock puppet, then maybe get the sock tagged, then Wikipedia could ban whoever they wanted as a suspected sock of her to win an argument.

Wow... If she wasn't admin, what a different twist of fate.

Unless my <find on page> missed it somehow, I don't find Ryulong on the HiveMind Page (Site?).

Can anybody verify or falsify what it says about itself on its user page?

Or do they let you take Wiki-Sabbaticals now in undergrad programs?

How much does anyone want to bet everyking will get a "less-than-satisfying" answer?

A- Comment will be ignored
B- Comment will be blanked
C- He'll be told to stop trolling
D- Others will tell everyking to stop trolling their favorite vandal fighter. Jimbo be praised!
E- everyking will be blocked and insulted
F- Other_______?

Do I have to splain everyting to youse guys?

Please don't be distracted by yet another variation on the standard opening pawn move.

The real reason why Booby Spice Pow-War Ringer Hao Rong Ryu did what it did had nothing to do with the particular target of opportunity that it chose to range its guns on the first time out of the box.

It's what WikiPugilists would call a φeint — or to put it in their more preferred template-talk:

In the response on my talk, he said that everyone makes mistakes, that he already apologized, and that he knows he "should triple-check in these situations" (yes, that would be nice). He didn't explain why CattleGirl should be exempted from the block based on her admin status, if her edits, as he judged them in ignorance of her status, actually merited a block. He also signalled that he reads WR and is aware of this thread.

Perfectly natural human behaviour:
  • All human beings criticize everything.
  • All human beings ask, "Who said it?"
I suppose the tiny bit of difference between Wikipedia and the Review is that we don't treat people like dirt for doing those things.

Now it's our turn to ask, "Who said it?"

Back to the bit about curious omissions.

I realize that many people view Wikipedia as an e-vocation, if not a total break from reality — one of the few things for which it seems e-minently suited — but I still find it just a little curious that a person majoring in Chemical Oceanography and minoring in Anthropology would have no edits that I can find on those or any related subjects.

I mean, wouldn't a Gung-Ho Vandal-Biter like Ryulong who had any of these articles on its watchlist be expected to show up every now then reverting routine vandalism if nothing else?

Indeed, the only scientific subjects that appear on the Interiot and Wikidashboard edit summaries are the articles on Ceres, Dwarf Planet, and Pluto that were recently in the news and I think showed up on the Main Page.

Maybe Ryulong is not so much an Oceanographer cum Anthropologer as a Fisher Of Men, y'know, Essjay's old job.

At least the "Harvest Moon (series)" article doesn't seem to have all that much to do with the Power Rangers. I'd say this is a good sign - it shows that he's branching out, diversifying his interests. You could almost say he's like a semi-idealized version of the modern-day Renaissance man, even.

The last year of the Rabbit was 1999, so Ryulong is one of the ages 8, 20, 32, 44, 56, 68, 80, 92, 104, and so on. I'm guessing 8, but if you believe that s/he's a non-prodigal undergrad, then a "normal" age for such a student would probably be 20.

If you believe anything that anyone says on their user pages, that is.

I didn't want to have to do this, but he really forces me to.

The BIG LIST of the TEN MOST RECENT non-User/Project-space ARTICLES that Ryūlóng has edited:
  1. Murder (disambiguation)
  2. Cutie Honey
  3. List of Kamen Rider Den-O episodes
  4. Zords in Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive
  5. Power Rangers
  6. Other Rangers and Ranger-like allies
  7. Bubble

  9. Harvest Moon (series)
  10. Villains in Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive
For God's sake, would someone block this editor who is obviously not contributing to an encyclopedia, and while you're at it, redirect his User page to Clown?

This is the future, folks. This is who is leading Wikipedia. This is who is making up new rules and enforcing them for the "good" of the project.

Seriously, how do grown adults not puke when they see evidence like this?

Silly Rabbit !!! Maybe it really is 8 years old ???

Then again, you have to ask yerself : What kind of 7 year old has the time — on skool nites — to rack up just shy of 12,000 edits during the months of September and October 2006 ? That's 200 edits per day for 2 solid months !

So, yup, it has to be a college student.

After all, Dudes, this is Φlorida we're talking about … what else is there to do in a Psyberian Ghoulag like that ?

And I no longer like NewYorkBrad. He and others just do not understand the threat Ryulong and those like him pose to Wikipedia.

I can tell Brad's a lawyer by spinning the negative traits of Ryulong into a positive. He's convinced the Community to pull a Donald Trump and give someone, who doesn't deserve a second chance, a fourth or fifth chance! If Brad were Saddam's lawyer at the trial, Hussein would be back in Baghdad leading Iraq again!

(Yes, I am aware many here are lawyers. You guys are ok.... I think.)

NYB's just another UberBoolSh*tter playing Good Cop to the Bawdy/Thatcher/Flo/SV bad cop show.
Even Cla68 is falling for NYB, but then Cla68 has to be exaggeratedly diplomatic and put up with the BS anyway to continue his quest to make wikipedia what it should be. I was unable to maintain diplomacy in the face of complete rottenness that I found in a 6 month tenure on WP. I expected the "community" to learn something from the Essjay Ixnay when I made my wikidebut with hope springing eternal.

WP just got worse, like any other rotten corrupt organization does when caught cold, and scrambles to duck and cover. The Nixon Admiinstration ca. 1973 comes to mind. Tapes were found (edit dumps), sectretarial blanking in all the key places was found (oversight!), etc.

WP needs a Gerry Ford to come in and send some tricky dicks off on a golden parachuted helicopter, and declare the long wikinational nightmare is over. Ha! Right.

NYB has a great gift of understatement: "Ryulong's RfA was closed as successful by a famously narrow margin". (For newcomers, he got below 70% but was promoted by Raul654 on the grounds that he liked him so never mind the usual rules.) However, I am almost wondering if NYB is being tongue in cheek:

QUOTE
Unfortunately, exactly as I (and many others who commented on all sides of the RfA) feared, Ryulong's mistakes have tended to be all of the same genre: harshly blocking, most often indefinitely, accounts that other administrators would have felt warranted a shorter block, or a warning, or sometimes no action at all. ... I call for Ryulong to fully and definitively take to heart the advice he has received from many quarters that his work will be best appreciated, and will best serve the project, if he slows down a bit, and bears in mind always that the block button is not an administrator's only tool

That's a thorough ticking-off, if Ryulong will listen.

Ryulong is a sock of another made-man admin as a fallback. There is absolutely no way that individual is a full-time student in the sciences at Miami University and has a SlimVirginesque round the clock/week/year editing history. Miami used to be a party/jock school, but the fields of study that Ryulong ((hmmm....phonetically that comes out as "Are you long [stocks]"? - just a humourous side bar) purports to be doing require extensive lab and field involvement. As someone pointed out, he has made NO contributions to articles related to his supposed major until he was pointed out here, then the avid WR reader R-u-long made sophomoric edits to a jellyfish article.

His Miami U. status is right up there with Essjay's PhD's, and Mantanmoreland's Jesuitness. It's bool.

At least Slimmy didn't lie about herself on her "Please Love Me!" User page.

One of the things I was trying to introduce on the ill-fated Wiki-Abuse site was for the pages to highlight who was "open to recall" and who wasn't. A mere slither or token gesture towards some kind of accountability, no matter how futile, as I'm not sure anyone has ever been recalled by that process.

Ruylong's status became a bone of contention on Wiki-Abuse. A few WR types and some lunatic or other from elsewhere didn't seem to grasp my point regarding "recall", and began edit warring with me over this, including when I insisted that Ruylong had in fact withdrawn his "open to recall" status. Which turned out to be correct as we know. mad.gif

But I was trying to drive a wedge into the sealed tower of admin immunity, admittedly using a 2½ inch hammer. If admins were obliged (nay expected) to state on their pages whether they were "open to recall" the whole concept would gain ground. At the time I imagined that discussions would be on the increase at WP, and some kind of standard would be established. 5 other admins or established users would need to sign a recall statement and the admin would have to face rfa again, that type of thing. However, no progress was made on this at WP, and Wiki-Abuse disintegrated at the hands of the usual wiki-lunacy.

To be fair, I have never contributed to articles directly relevant to my degree. It's best to avoid being a real expert on Wikipedia. Still, an aggressive admin wouldn't have to worry about that.

So then we can look for admins who did lots of edits to articles, see who fits his profile like age, education background, religion Jewish, moved from New York to Florida for college (or is in either state), etc. Then we can find his second admin account!

So far here what wikipedia watch finds for similar IPs. Maybe one of these is a suspect.
