There have been a couple of references here to this guy. One compared him to Robespierre and claimed that he would turn Arbcom into a Committee of Public Safety. The Committee of Public Safety murdered thousands of people. Is Sandstein that bad? I've come across him a few times and he seemed pretty bad, but no worse than many. What's the deal? I suppose, like Robespierre, he is also a lawyer.

As long as he ends like Robespierre it should be amusing. But really, Peter, if they can't make do without the link to the WP article maybe it would be better to let them slide.
It's the blimp, Frank
He's a frequent quest at AN/I and similar fora, where he enforces the house POV with an iron fist.

In a firm but fair way? Or firm but unfair?

He's also a damned fool, and incompetent to boot.
Allow me to bring up the Law/Undertow flap again--Sandstein was a major player therein.
Plus the many, many Giano abuses. Here's one.

Sandstein makes me think of the classic "useful idiot" bit.
Isn't it amazing how many "useful idiots" Wikipedia has?

Many here would argue that there is no fair way to enforce a fundamentally unfair and self-inconsistent set of rules. That said, Sandstein seems to enforce not so much randomly as unthinkingly. Often the distinction is quite difficult to discern. He seldom takes any action against established editors, no matter how egregious their behaviour.

Where it says "Sandstein's obviously lost the map that shows him where his brain is located". I'm beginning to get the picture. Definitely one to vote for!

If Sandstein were a cop, he'd be the one at the apartment fire citing every fleeing resident for jaywalking.

The fact that you are stating this makes me have serious doubts about Sandstein's fairness.

biggrin.gif This is probably not a good place to claim that Sandstein is "fair".

Try it on AN/I instead. More cluelessness there.

It's not like Sandstein is a fan of Wikifan. But as far as I can tell he is very fair overall to the majority of editors.

He treats the majority of editors in much the same way, if that's what fair means. sick.gif

Almost as amusing as Wikipedia's "facebook". What a motley crew.

Except for Gwen Gale, who is apparently really hot.

Oy, that was me comparing him to Robespierre though that was in the general atmosphere of ArbCom Election jest so I really hope nobody thinks that I think that he is capable of murdering thousands of people (bannning thousands, yes, murder, no) or something. Also in a way it was an underhanded compliment (mixed with criticism and fun poking), and play on the fact that Robespierre was called the "Incorruptible"

I do think Sandstein is "fair", to the extent that has meaning on Wikipedia (per Gomi's comment) and actually quite resilient with respect to political manipulation or influence - he'd ban an ArbCom member, as fast as a random IP if it was deserved (hence the "Incorruptible").

However over the past half year or so I think I've witnessed him experience some serious burn-out when it comes to administratin' and as a result I think his decisions have become more erratic and emotion-driven. Of course, in that past half year, he slapped a 3 day block on me for what I thought was a completely legit AE request (especially since it followed up recent statement made by Shell Kinney). I AM a little bit bitter about that, but in the grand scheme of things, it's small potatoes. I see he has gone on vacation - which is good. It'd also be good if he comes back.

Sandstein lacks only a willing Jean Valjean to become Inspector Javert.
